Great product but not in regs

I bought this product because it seemed like a great idea, and according to the faq’s on the website it is supposed to be in regs. Got it in the mail last week and it was great, I’m at AIT and multiple drills saw it and said it was super cool and asked where I got it. All it took though was one instructor who was tracking regs to notice it on my desk, he called me to his desk and read off all the regs explaining how this type of alteration is definitely not allowed. He called my 1SG and the only reason I wasn’t counseled was because almost no one had seen anything like it before. I guess it depends on your chain of command but definitely check before buying.

We have been in business for almost 10 years and our silk liners are sold through Military Clothing Sales Stores at both CONUS and OCONUS locations. In addition, our liners have been certified by NATICK and are made from non-flammable materials to help ensure safety and compliance with military standards.

Our understanding is based on AR 670-1, paragraph 1-6b, and AR 700-84, paragraph I13-8, which state that alterations are not authorized if they change the basic design or intended concept of fit of the item. Because the silk lining is installed on the interior and does not alter the external appearance, fit, function, or military specifications of the headgear, we believe it falls within the intent of those regulations.

That said, interpretations can vary between units and leaders. In our experience, some chains of command review the regulations and determine the product is permissible, while others may reach a different conclusion. Ultimately, Soldiers must comply with the guidance of their leadership.

What is approved in one unit may not be approved in another and vice versa, so we also encourage service members to verify their follow-on assignment’s policy.
